XML Query Creator
Select a manual listing of machines
Instructions for building a quick query that will select a list of computers.
1. Copy the list of computers that you want to select.
2. Open the BuildQuery.xls spreadsheat.
3. Paste the list of computers into column A of the spreadsheat
4. Click the lower right side of cell 1E, the curser should change to a plus sign, and drag it down as far down as you pasted clients in column A. So if you pasted in 300 computers, then you should drag column E down to line 300.
5. Copy column E
6. Open the BlankQuery.xml file in a text editor
7. Paste the copied text from the spreadsheat into the middle of the document. It should replace the lines that say "Computer."Device Name" = "Simba" OR
8. In the text that you pasted, scroll down to the end, and delete the last OR.
9. Change the Query name and the core name in the xml file.
10. Save the xml file
11. Open a console and go to the Queries section.
12. Right click on the My Queries and choose Import
13. Browse to the xml file that was saved and click the OK button
There should now be a query that can be run that will select the list of computers. It can then be used to schedule a task to these machines. Hopefully this will save a lot of time. It may take 3-4 minutes to create the query, but if there are very many computers that need to be selected, it will be a lot faster than dragging each individual computer to the task.
