A PXE client computer is slow to start when you deploy Windows PE from a Windows Server 2003-based RIS server

TFTP Transfers are slow to some machines. This problem occurs most frequently on Legacy-Free systems that emulate an 8042 keyboard controller chip in the system's firmware. However, other hardware configurations may also exhibit this problem.

You can download an up to date version of the startrom.0 file from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906425 or obtain from Windows Server Support Pack 1: copy C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\STARTROM.n12 and rename it to STARTROM.0.

Replace the existing STARTROM.0 in \%ProgramFiles%LANDesk\ManagementSuite\LANDesk\VBoot\ and redeploy any PXE Reps.

If a manual copy is desired, the STARTROM.0 can be replaced on the PXE Representatives by overwriting STARTROM.0 located in \%ProgramFiles%\LANDesk\PXE\System\images\x86pc\undi\provwin, \%ProgramFiles%\LANDesk\PXE\System\images\x86pc\undi\winpe, and \%ProgramFiles%\LANDesk\PXE\System\images\x86pc\undi\wpemenu (all WinPE options).
