Maintain the LANDesk core

LANDesk Management Suite cores need a bit of hand holding; this tool helps keep cruft from piling up and tells you about problems.

  • It cooks up some useful statistics about and produces RRD graphs so you can see how LANDesk is performing over time. Here's a sample screenshot. If you like, it can also produce a map of your network from the core's perspective.
  • It emails you if bad things are going on (services down, queues filling up, that sort of thing). In some cases, it will correct the problem too. Here's a sample email.
  • It deletes and deactivates things you don't need any more so your disk and database don't fill up with junk.
  • If you're doing software deployment or patching your vulnerabilities with LANDesk, it will give you an average of how long it takes to get something done. This can be a bragging right or an embarrassment :)
  • It looks for missing information in unmanaged devices and tries to fill it in, using the NMAP network scanner.

Download the latest version here. The manual is available here, if you'd like details on how it does all of the above. Blog posts sometimes have discussion of implementation details, if you like. There are some reports that are useful with duplicate deletion here. The change log is here. If you'd like to help with development, check out the source code repository.
